Sam Judge, b. 1988, England. Lives and works in North Yorkshire, U.K.
After working in graphic and digital design for the last decade, Sam is now turning his hand to painting. He is in the early stages of establishing his practice. His paintings take the form of small scale abstractions.
“I’m striving to find an honesty in my work. I don’t set out with any prior conception. The paintings evolve throughout their creation as I respond to what I see. My choice of colour is influenced by my surroundings; the Yorkshire landscape and the North East coast. The marks I make are an expression of the energy I may be feeling in that moment. In that I hope to find a connection between myself and the viewer.”
In 2019 Sam published Disquiet: The Hidden Depths of Men, a self-published title exploring modern masculinities. It was sold in Tate Modern and remains held in the archives at BALTIC.
