Improving the listening experience for Economist subscribers
Product design, User research, UX
The Economist create industry-leading audio versions of nearly all their articles. Despite this their app only provided basic listening functionality. As part of a larger refactoring of their digital products we worked to define the future of audio.
Define what a great audio experience would look like for the Economists most avid listeners.
We interviewed a handful of regular audio listeners to understand their experience with the app and the many ways they had tried to hack their way to make the listening experience work for them. We looked at 100s of app store reviews to distill the common problems and requests that were related to audio. We brought this together into a series of sketches that formed a co-design exercise that we conducted with subscribers.
